My life as a musician and the first two Kickstarters I ran were several of key sources of insight that lead me to build an a video making app. The place holder name of the app is Whurligig after one of the new songs on Angles & Alibis. Wrrly for short, turns any song into a bespoke music video in 10-20 minutes.. The aspiration of the Whirligig App is to actualize and amplify the Conspire to Smile ethos. Here’s how I’m hoping this social experiment might work. The app assists you in making videos that represent the sensations youfeel and see when you listen to a song. Minds eye visions are a mash up of moods, sensations, sense of place characters etc. When an auther, a painter, photographer, a movie director or say a songwriter does a good job of personifying a work of art, the audience sees or senses a part of themselves mirrored in the artwork Authers note: To fully “get” what i’m going for its important to point out that the world personify has a slightly different meaning than the word .personalize. Personify means to make something that is less than human, more human by inserting yourself. Personalize just means customize something to your personal preferences, like shitty ads. Machines can’t only personalize. People however can personify the output of a machine. Because machines cant feel but people sure as hell can. We often feel far more than we realize. Thats why we dig music. We feel it by sensing it. And so by making a music video infused with your “person” you are in fact making the song MORE HUMAN, yourself MORE HUMAN and your community healthier through personified social media. Full stop. Release the hounds
